Jordan Community Education and Recreation launched the free Wheels Up Wednesday program for area senior citizens in partnership with Benjamin Bus Company.
Wheels Up Wednesday launched in late summer 2023 to meet the consistent transportation needs of Jordan area community members ages 55 and older. Every Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., riders can take a shuttle bus from Oak Terrace, Brentwood Court, Brentwood Terrace, or Schule Haus to anywhere within Jordan city limits at no cost. The program currently averages 8–10 riders, with new participants each week.
Frequent stops have included Frandsen Bank & Trust, Ace Hardware, Home Town Bank, Dream Nails, First Choice Pharmacy, the Jordan Police Station (to properly dispose of old medications), Radermacher Super Value, and Pekarna Meat Market. Shopping trips at Radermacher’s include free coffee and a spot to chat, generously provided by Paul Radermacher and his staff.
“I am absolutely blown away by the early success of this program,” remarked Cullen Bahn, Director of Jordan Community Education and Recreation. “What I didn’t expect from the service is how we have become our very own little family that gathers each week. We have riders who were babysitters for other riders back in the day. Riders that grew up together and now have been reunited for a couple of hours each week. To hear the stories, see the smiles, and enjoy the many laughs each Wednesday has been so rewarding. I am beyond thrilled we are able to give back and support a generation that sacrificed so much over the years—it warms my heart!”
